Be the answer AI gives, not the page it skips

More and more searches now end in an AI answer — or never reach a search engine at all. Generative engine optimisation makes your business the source those answers cite.

Why this is now a separate discipline

A traditional search result gives ten links and lets the searcher choose. An AI answer gives one paragraph and perhaps three citations. The difference is not cosmetic: the winner takes almost everything, and the pages ranked fourth to tenth stop existing as far as that searcher is concerned.

Two behaviours drive this. Google increasingly answers directly in AI Overviews, and a growing share of research now starts in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity rather than in a search box. In both cases the question is no longer "where do we rank" but "are we the source being quoted".

What we do

  • Crawler access and rendering

We verify that GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google's crawlers can reach your site and that your content renders for them without JavaScript. Many sites block them by accident.

  • Citable content structure

Clear question-and-answer structure, self-contained claims, named sources and dates. Content an assistant can lift a sentence from and attribute with confidence.

  • Entity and structured data

Schema.org markup, consistent naming and external corroboration so AI systems understand who you are, what you do and why you are credible.

  • Citation tracking

We monitor which prompts surface your brand across assistants, how that compares with competitors, and how the share of voice moves.

How the work runs

  1. Visibility baseline

We run the prompts your buyers actually use across the major assistants and record who gets cited today. That is the number we are trying to move.

  2. Fix access, then restructure

Crawler access and rendering first. Then we rebuild the pages that should be winning citations so they are the clearest available answer.

  3. Re-test and expand

We re-run the prompt set on a schedule, see what moved, and extend the approach to the next set of questions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SEO and GEO?
SEO optimises for a ranked list of links. GEO optimises for a generated answer that may cite only two or three sources and send no click at all. The technical foundations overlap almost entirely; what differs is how content is structured, how claims are sourced, and how visibility is measured.
How do you measure something that produces no click?
By tracking citations and mentions directly: which prompts surface your brand, in which assistants, against which competitors, and how that share moves over time. Assisted conversions and branded search volume are the downstream signals.
Is this just adding FAQ schema?
No. Structured data helps machines parse a page, but citation depends on being genuinely the clearest, best-sourced answer to a question — with claims an assistant can attribute. Schema without substance changes nothing.
Does GEO work if my technical SEO is poor?
No. AI crawlers need access and content that renders without heavy JavaScript. If technical SEO is broken, you are invisible to AI search for exactly the same reasons you are invisible to Google.
